Deep breath. Time to try to start regular life again. This is Friday’s post, saved for a few days. Heavy hearts and deeply felt prayers took the place of our usual frivolities.

I love the idea of an anchor as a wedding symbol. Sure, it brings to mind the sea and is perfect paired with the navy blue and white stripes. At the same time, the bigger symbol is finding the person who keeps you grounded and being the person that keeps someone else grounded. It acknowledges the people in your life who do the same. What a wonderful graphic to set the tone of your ceremony. The handmade boutonniere is an unexpectedly perfect accent to the groom’s suit. Classic navy bridesmaid dresses and a preppy striped table and cake combine to make a crisp palette that’s fresh and bright.

The shortening days seem to be taking hold. As a result, dreams of the tropics seem to be in the air today. Friends returning from getaways, people dreaming of places where the days are longer and the sun is brighter. Somewhere fun, with salty air and sweet, juicy fruits. Relaxed times to share with people we love…aaahhhh…

Pineapples have long been a symbol of hospitality–and what a great symbol to welcome friends and family to share in your joyous day. Check out this idea featuring that central theme and out Pineapple Wedding Invitation. The palette is preppy bright and crisp, welcoming and warm, and very, very fun. Sunny yellows and bright pops of pink look so pretty together, and so pretty on your bridesmaids. The jingle belled ribbons flutter in the breeze. Add a tasty, tropical cocktail and your guests will feel as welcome as they ever have.

You can find sources for these ideas and lots of other details to add on our Pinterest boards.

When I bought my first house, one of the things I was most enchanted with were the teeny tiny closets that were lined with beautiful. Sadly, because of the teeny tiny-ness of the closet, all that pretty paper got covered up, but the lesson was learned–just a touch of pattern and color can brighten up any little thing.

For example, if you tend toward a traditional style, but want that little twist of something special, our Vintage Border Wedding Invitation may be just the thing! It’s a pretty little grace note that enhances the romance and brightens the look of a classic. The palette is one any Southern girl would love, soft peach and leafy green. But the glory is all in the details. The stripe of the tie found again in the swag of the chair. The subtle ribbon of the gown circling the middle of the cake. The bit of lacy detail trimming in the invitation reminds me of the gown and tying together all the elements. That little touch that makes it extra special. A similar look can be found with our Vintage Ribbon Wedding Invitation. Either choice will add that dash of sweetness you might be looking for.

I found a LOT of great ideas to compliment this theme and color scheme. You can find them, as well as sources for these great ideas, on our Pinterest Board!

The produce bins at my local grocery have been loaded with cherries lately. We’ve been dining on them breakfast, lunch and dinner. With yogurt, in salad, as dessert. And every time they taste special and sweet and fresh. You know what happened next?

Wait.
Let me try that again.

You *know* what happened next.

I started thinking about a cherry themed wedding. I started with our beautiful and classic Rachel Wedding Invitation. White and gray subdue the red and make it a more sophisticated palette. The cheery red print bridesmaid dresses don’t have the cheeky feel of a rockabilly dress, but they are still undeniably fun and unique. Grilled cherry cocktail? Yes, please and thank you! And one of my very favorite trends–wedding pie. Pie pops, mini pies, pie favors. Just pie, pie, pie. If you want a wedding that will make guests leave happy, consider serving pie. Homey and lovely, but elevated to celebration. Check out the board for the sources and feel inspired!

I know that Pantone declared Tangerine Tango the color of the year and I LOVE it. Orange everywhere, as accent, as dominant color, on shoes, on bags…it’s EVERYWHERE. But I realized something the other day. Ready? It’s kind of a secret.

I think the **real** color of the year…is…

Coral.

If you look around the wide world of Pinterest, you see coral about 10 times more than you see Tangerine Tango. Bridesmaid dresses. Flowers. Decorating. Coral is just a little softer. A little bit pink without being too twee. Still red/orange, but maybe more liveable and versitile. Pair it with cream and it seems beachy, but pair it with a taupey gray like we did here and it looks even more cool and sophisticated. Flattering for just about everyone, it reminds me of sunsets and peach pie (or cake, like in the pinboard.)

We paired it here with a great classic wedding invitation with an unusual wedding invitation twist. We call it the Kiev, but it is a beautiful invitation with pretty flourishes in the corners to take this from the basic wedding invitation to something very unique that will set your wedding apart. Pretty, cool, and just pretty cool. More ideas and inspirations, as well as sources on our Pintrest board.

You know those genius ideas that you wish you had thought of? Those things that would have made something special even MORE special? That you can’t believe it didn’t occur to you before now? This is one of those ideas.

Once you are engaged you have the guy, but what about your girls? The ones who’ve been by you through thick and thin, the ones who you can call middle of the night, the ones who are really *in* your life. Sure, you can just ask them to stand up with you on your special day or…and here’s the genius idea…you can ask them in a really special, memorable, fun way. A RingPop in an oversize ring box would be adorable, as would a bottle of really great wine tagged with your request. (LOTS more ideas on our Pinterest page!) There are more cool ways to ask your best girls than you can even think of.

The idea I’m most drawn to is a locket with your ‘proposal’ in it. Heartworks by Lori is a sweet little etsy shop that is just filled with different kinds of lockets. These golden orbs are speaking to me today–very mod, very Mad Men, and only $15!!–and she’ll even provide the secret message. There are lockets for just about every taste and style, too. Slip in a little piece of paper, a great picture of the two of you, put a ribbon on it, and get set to make a memory…

There are as many ways to dress your bridesmaids as there are bridesmaids. And do you go matchey? Mismatched colors? Mismatched shapes? One way to do any of those things is to check out the offerings of eShakti.com. They have cute dresses with so many different cuts and shapes, many of which are customizable. So if you have one bridesmaid who wants strapless and another who needs a longer skirt and capped sleeves, you can do that! If you have a size range from Zero to 26, they can accommodate it. They tend toward the casual, but for a sweet afternoon wedding, they might be just the ticket. And these really are dresses you could wear again. Plus, the prices are GREAT for the bridesmaids who are getting started in their careers. Cute, practical AND friendly to everyone? Certainly an option to check out!

Spring is in the air! At my local discount mega big box store, I was checking out the Easter displays and thinking about how you could utilize some of the sweet pastels or grasses in a wedding theme without it screaming “straight outta the Easter basket.” The pastels are pretty easy, they are very on-trend right now, though a little more muted than the ones on the plastic eggs. But the grass idea was intriguing. Not the green plastic crinkly stuff, but real grass. Once I got home and started looking, I was surprised to find some great examples, but not too many. What does that mean for you? It means that grass is a fresh, interesting, pretty option for decorating your wedding.

Here’s a collection of simple ways to utilize grass in a simple and sweet way, but if you check out our Pinterest Board we have links to the sources as well as a lot of other ways to use it. In a sleek and elegant container it looks very modern. With bright lollypop like flowers in it it looks very cutesy-kitschy. Either way it’s fresh and bright and a good dose of spring and summer. What a great way to bring in a pop of green to your wedding!

Everyone is looking for that perfect cocktail. The mix that will please every palette from the bourbon swillers to the tea sippers. And ladies and gentlemen–This. Is. It. Not too sweet, not too boozy. Just. Right.

A friend of mine introduced me to the simplicity of this drink at Book Club one evening. It is simplicity in itself. Some pear nectar, something fizzy, some brandy or slices of fruit for extra credit and you’re sipping away at something that everyone loves. It’s celebratory, tasty, simple and just perfect for most any occasion. New Years Eve? Yes. Your bridal shower brunch? Yes. The signature cocktail at your wedding? Of course! It’s easy to make virgin–just offer up some sparkling cider or even some soda or seltzer in place of the sparkling wine. As for which bubbly to use, I’m a big fan of prosecco for the combination of price point and taste.

It’s one of those divine combinations that doesn’t even need a recipe. Just nectar topped with sparkle and sipped. Love, love, love.
